Creating Living Art in Tampa Bay Florida
The art of bonsai is an incredible way to connect with nature and deepen your appreciation of the natural world—and we’re excited to help you!
Thunderstruck Bonsai is a veteran-owned and operated bonsai nursery based in Pinellas Park, Florida. We specialize in creating living art with tropical species that is as unique as it is beautiful. We’re dedicated to providing you with the highest quality trees we can find, and we take pride in our ability to turn each tree into something special.
At Thunderstruck Bonsai, we believe that everyone should have access to the art of bonsai. We’re passionate about creating living art that is accessible to everyone, and we strive to bring together communities through the sharing of our knowledge and love of the craft.
Our mission is simple: we want to help people discover the beauty of bonsai, and we want to make it easy for them to do so!
In collaboration with some of the largest independent breweries in the Tampa Bay area, our Bonsai & Brews events and workshops are hosted throughout the year to spread our knowledge and expertise, as well as help others learn how to create their own living art.
As a full-service bonsai nursery, we offer a variety of services including regular maintenance, fertilization, pruning, short & long-term tree boarding, soil analysis, diagnosis, and more. We also offer private lessons, workshops, and team-building/corporate events, so if you have an idea in mind but don’t know how to make it happen, let us help!
We invite you to explore our website, which features a gallery of our work, as well as information about upcoming events. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment with one of our experts, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Why We Are Unique
We are passionate about creating beautiful and healthy bonsai trees that reflect the natural beauty of our tropical climate. Unlike large nurseries that mass-produce pre-bonsai trees that need further shaping and care, we grow our trees in small batches and curate them into bonsai from the start. We carefully select tropical species that are native to our region and apply pruning and wiring techniques throughout the growing process to achieve the desired form and style. This way, we ensure that each of our bonsai trees is unique, well-adapted, and ready to thrive in your home or garden.
Don’t be fooled by the fake bonsai trees that you see in malls, supermarkets or online stores. These are called mallsai, and they are nothing but cheap and shoddy imitations of the real thing. Mallsai have unnatural shapes, glued-on rocks, and clay soil that suffocate the tree. They are doomed to die soon after you buy them, and they don’t reflect the art and skill of bonsai cultivation.
At our bonsai nursery, we only sell the real deal. Our bonsai trees are grown and shaped with care and respect, using proper soil, pots, and tools. They are healthy and beautiful, and they will bring you joy and peace for years to come. We also teach you how to take care of your bonsai tree and enjoy its natural beauty.
Larry at Thunderstruck has an unmatched passion for the art of Bonsai and has quickly established himself as one of the best in the business. Not to mention the fact that he’s a pleasure to work with and his trees are amazing.
We went to the Bonsai and Brews at 3 Daughters last night and it was awesome! Larry is not only knowledgeable, he is kind. There was no concern about doing it “wrong”, they gave support and gentle guidance and encouraged us to be creative and tell a story with our bonsai styles. Larry’s passion for bonsai is contagious and he’s got a real skill for showing the beauty of the art. 10/10
This place is a real hidden gem. Great selection of trees, all of which are in peak health. Everything from pre-bonsai to trees many decades old are on display. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. Support a local business instead of buying a tree at a big box store. Will definitely be back.
